The Day of the Lord: The Coming Harvest
Sermon preached at Washington Square Park – August 23, 2026

My name is Pedro. I am from Mexico. I have been living in the United States for about twelve or thirteen years. From the time I was young, my dream was to come and live in New York. I believed New York was the top of the world — and in many ways, I still believe it is.
As a Mexican, making it to the United States legally felt almost impossible. So I began praying and asking the Father for an opportunity. He rapidly opened the doors. A company based in New York hired me and brought me here with all my expenses covered. The rest is history.
I know the Lord sent me here for a mission and for a reason. I am determined to honor Him.
We are living in very critical times in the history of humanity. Today I want to preach about the coming Day of the Lord. This is a message you will almost never hear in church. Most churches avoid these topics because if they spoke about them honestly, they would lose membership. Sadly, many churches have become businesses — entertainment centers where people come to check boxes, perform rituals, give offerings, worship their idols, and leave feeling they have done their religious duty.
If you do not go to church for that reason, I applaud you. Religion has taken over many of these institutions and created something false. Religion is the manipulation of the things of God by human beings for human purposes. That does not mean God is not real. That does not mean Jesus is not real. It simply means that people have taken over Christianity and other religions and turned them into systems of power and control. That is human business, not God’s business.
If you are agnostic and do not believe in anything, and therefore do not go to church — that is better than being a hypocrite. Many churches are full of people who claim to be close to God, yet their lives are bitter and ugly. Going to a building does not make you good if you are not connected to God.
Today I want to speak about the Day of the Lord — one of the most important topics in the Bible, yet one that almost no one preaches. There are many books in Scripture that speak of this day, the day of wrath, the day of reckoning. But it has been buried. Most people have no understanding of it.
I am going to teach you from a parable of Jesus that explains much of what is happening in the world right now.
The Parable of the Wheat and the Weeds
Matthew 13:24–30
Jesus presented another parable to them:“The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field. But while people were sleeping, his enemy came, sowed weeds among the wheat, and left. When the plants sprouted and produced grain, then the weeds also appeared. The landowner’s servants came to him and said, ‘Master, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Then where did the weeds come from?’‘An enemy did this,’ he told them.‘So, do you want us to go and pull them up?’ the servants asked him.‘No,’ he said. ‘When you pull up the weeds, you might also uproot the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest. At harvest time I’ll tell the reapers: Gather the weeds first and tie them in bundles to burn them, but collect the wheat into my barn.’”
This parable puzzled the disciples. Later they asked Him to explain it.
Jesus Explains the Parable
Matthew 13:36–43
Then He left the crowds and went into the house. His disciples approached Him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.”He replied:“The One who sows the good seed is the Son of Man; the field is the world; and the good seed — these are the children of the kingdom. The weeds are the children of the evil one, and the enemy who sowed them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the harvesters are angels. Therefore, just as the weeds are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of the age. The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather from His kingdom all who cause sin and those guilty of lawlessness. They will throw them into the blazing furnace where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in their Father’s kingdom. Let anyone who has ears listen.”
Jesus is telling us that in this world there are different kinds of people. There are the children of the kingdom — those who belong to God. There are the children of the evil one — those planted by the enemy to cause sin, division, and havoc. And there are many others who have no idea what is really happening.
Satan has people positioned in society who are responsible for spreading wickedness and confusion. We see them in places of power. We see them in the news. Many of them are influencers and leaders who have given themselves to the agenda of darkness. These are the weeds planted among the wheat.
This is not a new idea. In Genesis, God told the woman that there would be enmity between her offspring and the offspring of the serpent. There are people among us who belong to the enemy — minions of Satan causing destruction on the earth.
One day the Lord will send His angels. They will gather all the weeds and throw them into the furnace. That day is coming. A day of reckoning is coming. God is about to do the harvest.
The Day of the Lord
The Bible calls this the great and terrible day — the day of judgment.
Look with me at Matthew 24:36–44:
“Now concerning that day and hour no one knows — neither the angels of heaven nor the Son — except the Father alone. As the days of Noah were, so the coming of the Son of Man will be. For in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah boarded the ark. They didn’t know until the flood came and swept them all away. This is the way the coming of the Son of Man will be. Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. Two women will be grinding grain with a hand mill; one will be taken and one left. Therefore be alert, since you don’t know what day your Lord is coming. But know this: If the homeowner had known what time the thief was coming, he would have stayed alert and not let his house be broken into. This is why you are also to be ready, because the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”
Jesus points us back to the days of Noah. In those days the world had become deeply corrupted. Fallen angels had mixed with humanity. Giants and violent beings filled the earth. God told Noah to build an ark because judgment was coming. The people of that generation kept living as if nothing would happen — eating, drinking, marrying — until the flood came and took them all away.
Jesus says the coming of the Son of Man will be just like that.
We are living in a similarly wicked and selfish generation. Selfishness rules. People care only for themselves. The earth is already shaking. Earthquakes, volcanic activity, and unusual signs in the heavens are increasing. These are birth pains pointing to the day that is approaching.
On that day, people will suddenly be removed. The wicked who have been pushing evil while pretending to be righteous will be taken for judgment. It will be a day of great shaking — the greatest shaking in human history. Millions will perish because of the catastrophe and confusion that follow. People will run to caves and try to hide from the presence of the Lord as He shakes both heaven and earth.
This is the day of vengeance. Why has God allowed so much wickedness — abortion, bloodshed, wars, exploitation? Because He gave humanity free will. But every act of evil is being recorded. There is a tally. There will be a reckoning.
What Should You Do?
My urgent recommendation is this: find God while there is still time. Find Jesus.
The Bible says that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. The name of the Lord is Jesus.
That day can come at any moment. When you begin to hear reports of people disappearing, when the sun grows dark, when the earth shakes, when the atmosphere itself feels wrong — go to safety, lock your door, and cry out to Jesus. Ask Him to spare your life. He will hear you.
You can read about this day throughout Scripture — in Joel, in Zephaniah, and in many other places. Joel says:
“Blow the ram’s horn in Zion; sound the alarm on My holy mountain! Let all the residents of the land tremble, for the day of the Lord is coming; in fact, it is near — a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and total darkness… The earth quakes before them; the sky shakes. The sun and moon grow dark, and the stars cease their shining. The Lord makes His voice heard in the presence of His army.”
This is not a message most churches want to preach. It does not fill seats or keep the offerings steady. But it is the truth.
Be ready for the Day of the Lord. The signs are already appearing — eclipses, planetary alignments, meteor showers, monster storms, and increasing quakes. More is coming.
You are only one prayer away from being reconciled with God.
God is not against you. He does not want anyone to be lost. But every person is the captain of their own ship. God will not force you. He is a loving Father who wants you to come home. He is not interested in religion. He is interested in a real relationship with you.
Sin is the most destructive force in the universe. It destroys you and everyone around you. But God will meet you exactly where you are. He will take you as you are and lead you into a better life.
If you want to give your life to Jesus today, I am here. I can pray with you.
God loves you. I love you.Have a great Sunday evening.
