Atheism is a Scam

Preached at Washington Square Park on July 5th 2026.

Hello, New York! This is Brother Pedro, a preacher. I’m going to share a message with you in a little while. What a beautiful Sunday we have here in Washington Square Park. The city isn’t so bad today, and the weather is going to hold up nicely — just a little rain later, but we’ll be just fine.

Let’s begin with prayer. Father, thank You for this beautiful day You have given us. Let everyone listening feel Your love and understanding in their lives. Open the hearts and ears of those who have believed lies or held ideas against You. Open their eyes to the truth of Your love and mercy. Thank You for everything You have done. I pray for this crowd and everyone listening, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

My brothers and sisters, my name is Pedro. You can call me Brother Pedro. I’m from Mexico and I’ve been living in New York for a while now. I want you to know this: God loves you — no matter who you are, what you’ve done, or what you’re going through. God loves you.

Yet we live in a society that has been sold the lie, over and over, that God doesn’t exist. I have many questions about that claim, because it simply doesn’t make sense.

They tell us we were created by chance, out of nothing. But nothing in life happens by accident. Consider the second law of thermodynamics: disorder increases over time unless energy is directed into the system. If you leave your house alone for 600 years, it won’t improve — it will decay. Toasters and microwaves don’t spontaneously upgrade themselves. Order does not arise from chaos by chance.

Life needs life. How did the first cell survive? What did it eat? Who fed it? How did it reproduce? The mechanisms of DNA, mitosis, and cell division are incredibly complex — they cannot happen by accident.

And who wrote the code in our DNA? If you have hardware, you need software. A computer doesn’t write its own operating system by chance. The same is true for life. There is always a blueprint — an intentional Designer. You can see the fingerprints of God in every detail of creation.

Just take the “nastiest” insect or animal you can imagine, examine its tissue under a microscope, and you’ll see breathtaking geometry, beauty, and perfection. You are not a mutation. You are not an accident. You were designed. You have a name, not a number. You have purpose. God created you with intention.

So where does the idea that God doesn’t exist come from? Often it is morally convenient. It allows people to live without accountability — to chase reckless, selfish lives without consequences. But that thinking doesn’t work in the long run.

We will spend far more time dead than alive. Eternity is what matters. The Bible says the road to destruction is wide, and many walk on it. By default, without God, that is where we are headed. Hell was not made for people — it was made for Satan and his demons. But the enemy hates us because we are God’s creation, and he wants to drag us there with him. That’s why we see so much confusion, division, and deception in the world.

God does not want to send anyone to hell. But sin has consequences. We were created to live in love, harmony, and service to others — yet too often we live only for ourselves.

Many say, “I’m a good person.” But being “good” is not good enough. We all fall short. We all have sinned. That’s why we need a Savior. That’s why Jesus came. He lived a perfect life, yet religious leaders of His day crucified Him. Religion can be dangerous — it was religious people who killed the Son of God.

But Jesus went willingly to the cross for you and me. He paid the price for our transgressions so we could be forgiven and reconciled to God. The first and only door to a right relationship with God is Jesus.

I’m not asking you to follow a religion. I follow the Bible and the real Jesus — not the one appropriated and branded by institutions. Follow Jesus alone. Put your faith in Him and you will have a better life, a life with purpose.

Science is a tool, not a weapon against God. The scientific method begins with observation. We have never observed one kind evolving into another. But everywhere we look — mathematics, electricity, planetary motion, genetics, the human brain — we see design. The connections in your brain outnumber the stars in our galaxy. You are fearfully and wonderfully made.

God does not hate you. He hates what sin is doing to you. Your own conscience convicts you because you know right from wrong. But God offers forgiveness, healing, and freedom — for free. You don’t need to hide your guilt or search for love in the wrong places. Jesus loves you more than you can imagine. He knows your name, your trauma, your broken places, and He can restore them.

Today I invite you: Follow Jesus. Not religion — just Jesus. Declare with your heart: “Jesus, I want to follow You. Help me.” That can be the most important decision of your life.

There is much deception in this world because an enemy is at work. But Jesus is greater. He is alive. His Holy Spirit is here to guide you.

Think twice about atheism. It is a great deception. Everywhere you look are the fingerprints of a perfect, beautiful God. You are beautiful. You are designed. You have purpose.
